Formal self-consciousness or artistic self-consciousness was an eye-catching mark of the New-moon School. In accordance with its rational and steady social ideal and life attitude, New-moon School devoted itself to the establishment of rules and standards of new literature. In the pursuit of art ,it showed a trend towards classicism. With its strict standards, New-moon Scool corrected the coarseness and casualness among literary circles at that time. As a result ,it played an important role in the improvement of the taste of modem Chinese literature.
