A Most Talented Poetic Man of Learning——Xiao Gongquan's Classical Poems

就诗学观念而言,萧氏不仅超越了传统士大夫不够纯粹的学术人生观念,同时也超越了一般诗人对诗歌创作本身的艺术功利之追求。其原因大约可归结为两方面:一是由于纯粹的现代学术意识带给他一种异常纯洁的书卷气,二是他比较坎坷的人生经历恰好使一个才子诗人的思想情感获得了一种深沉的内涵。萧氏不同寻常的诗才尤其可从其作品的运思、意象和意境构造之中得到足够的说明,其诗作的审美特征主要可以从用语之工、诗感之细、意境之纯和体式之广四方面概括之。

In terms of poetic ideology, Mr. Xiao Quangong rose out of the traditional scholars＇ less-than-pure academic outlook and out of the utilitarian arts that the ordinary poets sought after in poetic creation. This can be attributed to two reasons： one is the extra pure scholar＇s style the pure modern academic awareness brings to him; the other is his relatively rough and rugged paths of life that enable him to acquire a profound understanding in his thoughts and emotions. His unique poetic talents can be demonstrated by the design, images and artistic conception of his works; his poetic aesthetic traits can be summarized in terms of skillful wording, subtle poetic sense, pure artistic conception and varied structures.
