There is now a rapidly expanding population of interlinked protein structure databases and softwares on the World Wide Web that can be readily accessed from a desk top PC using programs such as NCSA Mosaic or Netscape. The PDB Browse software provides various search methods for Protein Data Bank (PDB) entries. SCOP, a structural classification of proteins data base, organizes proteins hierarchically according to their families and folds. Once the protein of interest has been identified, it is easy to find other proteins of similar structure. RASMOL views and manipulates 3D structures of biomolecules in various ways. The DALI server performs protein structure comparison and database search with a new structure against all structures in the PDB. Using Swiss Model, an automated protein modeling server, protein structures can be derived from their sequences and protein modeling can be performed by e mail.
