摘要
VLIW是一种早已出现但一直未能广泛使用而现今又被重新重点研究的微处理器设计思想与技术,它跟超标量技术一样支持每周期执行多条指令,但并行度更高。本文将详细介绍VLIW的概念及其发展历程,讨论VLIW微处理器的特征与所需的编译技术支持,并与超标量微处理器进行比较分析。
VLIW is a design philosophy and technique for microprocessors,which occured in 1980s but never was widely used and now becomes a hot research topic again. VLIW can support multi - instruction execution per cycle, just as superscalar can,but VLIW may have higher degree of parallelism. In this paper, the concept of VLIW and its history are introduced. The features and compiler support needed for VLIW microprocessors are discussed. All these are done comparing with superscalar microprocessors.
