On the Family's Social Standing of Liu Zihui

崇安刘氏家族是官宦世家和儒学世家,家族中的许多成员凭藉科举、荫补进入官场。刘氏家族以《春秋》学为家学,世代教授乡里。优渥的经济基础、良好的家训家法以及由世家背景而来的行政经验和儒学、文学素养使刘氏家族在有宋一代贤才辈出。正是这个源远流长、学殖丰厚的世家大族诞生了刘子翚这样的一代师儒。

Liu Family in Chang＇an was a family of officials and Confucius scholars. Many members from this family entered the government circle by passing the Imperial Examination or inheriting from ancestors. Spring and Autumn Annals was selected as the Family Classic and taught to family members from generation to generation. Strong economic foundation, excellent family admonitions and injuctions, extensive administration experience and fairly good command of literature thanks to the traditional family background, have contributed to the emerging of talents from the family in Song Dynasty. And Liu Zihui, a renowned Confucius scholar tutor, is the very son of this traditional scholar family.
