AN EXILE BOUND TO RETURN — A PHILOSOPHICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE IMAGE OF "RABBIT" IN JOHN UPDIKE'S RABBIT,RUN

以克尔凯郭尔“自我”这一哲学概念为基础,来阐释《“兔子”,跑吧》中“兔子”的逃跑———回归———逃跑———回归这一心路历程,从而指出一个真正的、完整意义上的自我追求者,必须是一个物质与精神、现实与理想、个体与社会的复杂统一体。从这种意义上,一直在苦苦追寻自我的“兔子”最后必须回到现实中来。

This essay is intended to interpret the image of the ＂Rabbit＂ in John Updike＇ s novel Rabbit, Run from the perspective of a true self - a concept philosophically meant by Lierkegaard to be an integrated entity, individual and social, ideal and realistic, spiritual and material. In this sense, Rabbit, who has always been seeking his self frantically in his running- returning -running - returning journey, will eventually return symbolically to the social, realistic and material world.
