The development and main contents of GPS meteorology （GPS/MET） are discussed,the principle of GPS/MET is introduced in brief, the present situation, new progresses and problems in the study and application of GPS technique used in meteorology at home and abroad are analyzed in detail, and the potential application fields and broad application prospects of GPS/MET are also looked ahead in this paper.
