Contrast of Adjectives between English and Japanese

本文分析了英、日语形容词的共性及相异之处,主要指出了英语中的形容词有限定性用法及叙述性用法两种。形容词及形容词词组等还有前置和后置两种用法,而日语形容词则只有前置用法一种。本文试图通过认识形容词在两种语言中的位置及用法,来更好地理解语言及其语言所在国的社会与文化。

This paper analyzes the similarities and differences of adjectives between English and Japanese. In English, adjectives can be used to be attributive and narrative. And in English, adjectives can be put before or after nouns. While in Japanese, adjectives can only be put before nouns. The aim of the paper is to help the readers understand better the language itself and even the society and culture of each country through mastering the usages and the places of adjectives in the two different languages.
