Event-related potentials(ERP) were studied by auditory oddball paradigm in 30 diabetic patients and the same number of normal subjects with matched age,sex and degree of education.Cognitive Capacity Screening Examination (CCSE) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) were also examined. The results showed that the latencies of wave N2 and P3 prolonged and the amplitude of wave P3 decreased significantly in patient group, the abnormality rate was 24%. Although no significant differencies by CCSE and MMSE were noted between two groups,The electrophysio logical findings suggested that there be cognitive dysfunction in some diabetic patients, and ERP might be a sensitive, objective and simple electrophysological method for detecting cognitive dysfunction.
