在《尤利西斯》中,乔伊斯对社会性别身份以及传统社会性别机制所定义的理想男女气质进行了嘲讽、批判乃至颠覆。通过塑造跨越性别角色的男女主人,乔伊斯试图将男女从不合理的社会性别的束缚中解放出来,并重建更民主自由,更符合人性的性别机制。

In Ulysses, James Joyce ridiculed, challenged and subverted the traditionally defined ideal femininity and masculinity. Through the representation of Molly and Bloom who transcend the traditional definition of ideal man and woman, Joyce attempted to free man and woman from the unreasonable restrictions of gender system and establish a new, more liberate and human gender system.
