A significant feature marking US-Russian ties after the September 11 Incident in 2001 was the return of geopolitics. In the aftermaths of the world shocking New York assault, Russia once dropped its geopolitical concept and went in for cooperation with the USA in an anti-terrorist war to seek overall rapprochement with the USA. But with the change of the events, Russia found out that the USA did not in the least change its geopolitics of squeezing and containing Russia because of its good will. Geopolitical political game became once again the main scene in US-Russian ties, especially prominently in Central Asia. In a considerably long time to come, US-Russian ties will remain dominated by the continuous game between their traditional interests and especially their geopolitical interests. This contradiction and conflict will persist until the USA thinks it absolutely impossible for Russia to restore its empire and Russia is reconciled to its role as a regional power in the Euro-Asian continent.
