人类疟疾由4种原生寄生虫引起——恶性疟原虫、间日疟原虫、卵形疟原虫和三日疟原虫。大约1／3的世界人口生活在疟疾疫区。全世界每年约有2亿5千万临床病例，恶性疟的死亡人数约为2百万，大部分是非洲的年幼儿童。在英国，每年报告的病例约为2000例，死亡率为1％～2％。
Malaria in humans is caused by four species of protozoan parasites-Plasmodiuin falciparum,P,vivax,P,ovale and P,malariae,Approximately one-third of the world＇s population lives in malarial endemic areas.Each year,there are about 250 million clinical cases wordwide ,with mortality in falciparum malaria of about 2 million,predominantly in young Afriacn children,In the UK,about 2000 cases are notified each year and mortality is 1-2%.
