the paper discusses the balance of the new built and old in the old city with the design of the reconstruction project of Hongmiao Residential Quarter at Noth Xidan Street. The reconstruction being modern density and high plot ratio based on the public space and semi-public space of city street and courtyard and the way for wind, light and greening brought balance and twin-win of lift marks of the modern urban life and traditional space.
