本文概略地介绍了国外(主要是美国、日本、英国等国)半导体激光器在光纤通讯中的应用现状与未来发展趋势,指出了在过去十年里,半导体激光器为促进通讯技术的发展所作出的巨大贡献,预言了八十年代将是半导体激光器继续蓬勃发展的年代。并简略介绍了系统对激光源的要求。

The present state and future trend of the application of semiconductor lasers to fiber-optic communication abroad （mainly in the United States of America, Japan, Britain, etc.）are brieflydescribed. The great contribution made by semiconductor lasers in advacing communication techniques during the past decade is pointed out. The eighities are expected to be the era in which semiconductor loses will continue to thrive. Requirements on laser sourcss by systems are brieffly described.
