理工院校英语专业应该加强学科建设

Development of the English education in universities of science and technology by strengthening academic discipline construction

在我国高校中，三分之一以上的英语专业点是在理工院校设置的。本文简要地回顾了理工院校英语专业的发展历程。指出了当前理工院校英语专业在办学和学科建设等方面存在的主要问题。作者认为，为了提高专业教学质量并凸现其办学特色，理工院校英语专业必须加强学科建设。作者还就如何加强学科建设提出了一些看法。

Over one third of the English specialties in China＇s institutions of higher learning are established in universities of science and technology. The article first presents a brief review of the course of development of China＇s English education and then points out some of the major problems regarding the English education at the universities of science and technology. The author holds that the English education in such universities can only be further developed by strengthening academic discipline construction. Some specific ways and means that facilitate discipline construction are also proposed in the article.
