Located in Pingyao in the midland of Shanxi is an ancient town with a history of over 2700 years,which was built in the Western Zhou Dynasty.The entire ancient town was patterned after a turtle.Its 6 city gates,4 main streets and 72 lanes still keep their ancient charms. Within the town there is a collection of traditional folk residential houses and large courtyards, 380 of which are well preserved,including box offices,shops,establishment which used to provide escorts for a fee as well as courtyards.The city gate opens to reveal a forest of shops and a sea of merchants.But when the gate is closed,the whole town is a pure land,quiet and peaceful.Pingyao ancient town,along with its magnificent city gate,age-old streets and lanes,deep and serene courtyards and ancient temples,radiates the charm of an ancient tradition and culture.
