ENTERING THE PAPER-CUTTING VILLAGE

山西省长治市长治县南宋乡的南宋村,是有名的剪纸之村,几乎家家户户都能剪纸, 不分男女老少。村里流传着这样一句话：“姑娘只要嫁到南宋村,再拙也能变成巧媳妇”。

Nansong Village of Nansong Town, Changzhi County,Changzhi City,Shanxi Province is a well-known paper-cutting village,where almost every family and all the residents,male and female,old and young,are skilled at paper cutting.The series of the paper-cut The Eight Immor- tals made by 60-year-old Grandma Wang Shuxiang have enjoyed good praise in the southeastern Asia.And 70-year-old Grandma Song jinlan has been“cutting paper”for 56 years,beginning when she was only 14.Even Wang Wei,a 22-year- old young man has finished the paper- cut of Spring-filled Courtyard,which is 2.4 meters long and 1.2 meters wide.
