从台湾建省到台湾割让的历史反思

A Historical Retrospect on Establishment and Cession of Taiwan Province In Memory of the 120th Anniversary of Mr.Liu Ming Chuan as the 1st Taiwan Governor

1885年清政府为了“防日”“驭日”,宣布台湾建省,任命刘铭传为首任巡抚。但10年后,因中日甲午战败,被迫将台湾割让给日本。清政府虽将台湾改建行省,但未将它作为整个国防战略的一部分予以高度重视。加上人事上的纷纭,矛盾冲突,最终丧失了防日的初衷,这是一个沉痛的历史教训。

In 1885, in order to defend against Japan, the Qing Government announced establishment Taiwan Province, and assigned Mr. Liu Ming Chuan as the first governor. Ten years later, due to China＇s defeat in Jia Wu SinoJapanese War, Taiwan was ceded to Japan by treaty. Although the Qing Government exalted Taiwan into a province, it did not attach sufficient importance to Taiwan as a part of national defense strategy. In addition, there were many confusions and conflicts on personnel assignments. All these factors combined led to failure in defense against Japan.
