Objective To understand the AIDS- related KABP in key populations in 3 China comprehensive AIDS responses in Guangdong and to implement pertinent prevention measures against HIV/AIDS. Methods Residents, students, drug users, sex workers and outpatients in STD clinics were conveniently sampled and interviewed by interviewees using an anonymous self-administration questionnaire in these 3 China comprehensive AIDS responses. Results A total of 2 664 subjects were interviewed. The awareness rates for residents, students, drug users, sex workers and outpatients in STD clinics were 60.3%, 72.6%, 66.1%, 56.0% and 45.0% respectively. In drug users, 76.3% were injection drug users, 30.5% had sharing syringe experiences within 6 months and 15.1% were HIV positive. In sex workers, 21.4% used condom consistently within 3 months, 31.8% infected with STDs in the last 6 months and 8.5% had the experience of injecting drug with 12 months. In outpatients in STD dirties, 42.9% had un-marital sex within 3 months and 3.3% used condom every times in un-marital sex within 3 months. Conclusion HIV/AIDS knowledge was low either among general population or risking groups, but the rates of high risk behaviors and HIV positive were high in drug users, sex workers and outpatients in STD clinics in these 3 China comprehensive AIDS responses. There is an urgent need for health promotion and pertinent intervention to be considered in these regions.
