张资平为自己恋爱小说中的主人公几乎全部设置了悲惨的命运与结局,他们要么身患疾病,要么走向死亡,要么是两者兼而有之。原因是张资平思想中的人本主义、自然主义恋爱观与基督教的罪感意识之间存在着内在矛盾,这种矛盾导致他对自己的人物采取了既放纵又控制的隐晦态度。

Zhang Ziping set a tragic end for almost all the characters in his love novels, either badly sick, or dead, or both. That resulted from the inherent contradiction in his mind between the love views of humanism, naturalism and the sin- consciousness of Christianity, which caused him to take the paradoxical attitude of simultaneously indulging and restraining the characters in his novels.
