Accounting for E/C and C/E Translation of Cultural Messages with the Notion of Optimal Relevance

关联理论中的最佳关联性这一概念可以有效的解释翻译中的文化信息处理问题。由于英汉文化存在差异,翻译过程中必须通过增删、转换、重组与调整、加注的方式以传达原作的文化内涵意义,实现作者的交际意图,同时又充分考虑到读者的阅读能力与期待,使译文在相关方面与原文相似,最大程度地趋同于原文,获得最佳关联。

The notion of optimal relevance in Relevance Theory can effectively account for the translation of cultural messages. Owing to cultural differences, the means of additions and deletions, of transference, of reorganization and adjustments, and of adding notes should be adopted in translation in order to transfer connotations of original cultures, to realize the author＇ s communicative intentions, and at the same time, to take the readers＇ ability and expectation into full consideration. In this way, the translation will resembles the original closely enough in relevant respects, converges to the original to the most degree and thus achieves optimal relevance.
