Objective: To analyze the relationship between the early cleavage and the quality of embryos, and to study whether the existence of the MⅡ oocyte's spindle predicts the early cleavage of the normal fertilized oocyte.
Methods: The embryos that possessed two cells at 25-27 hrs post ICSI were designated as early cleavage (EC) embryos and those that had not yet cleaved were classified as no early cleavage (NEC) embryos. The high quality embryos rates were compared in the EC group and the NEC group.
Results: The early cleavage and the existence of spindle were positively related (rs=0. 422, P=0. 000). The difference of high quality embryo rate between the EC group and the NEC group was statistically significant (P=0 001).
Conclusion: The early cleavage may have a predictive value on the development to the high quality embryos. The existence of the spindle is closely related to the early cleavage.
