《红字》再现了清教统治下夫权、教权占主导地位的社会男性的性格共性———自私性,明确指出了男主人公的自私性是他们一切错误行为的源泉。同时,他们的自私还导致了海丝特及珠儿命运的凄苦与悲惨。
The Scarlet Letter reveals the men＇ s general characters in the Puritan society dominated by the authorities of husband and ＂religion, and a series of plots are formed on this basis, which is used as a recessive frame of the whole book. Roger Chillingworth＇ s and Arthur Dimmesdale＇ s egomania is the source of their wrong deeds, and they reaped what they had sown, moreover, the men characters＇ egomania also results in Hester＇s and Pearl＇s misery.
