Raising Passenger Train Speed on Busy Trunk Lines-A Major Step in the Reform of Chinese Railways

综述了铁路行业在国家的计划经济体制向市场经济体制转变及经济增长方式从粗放型向集约型转变的过程中所面临的新的挑战。为了迎接这种挑战,铁道部作出了将繁忙干线旅客列车速度提高到140～160km/h的决定,并积极采取措施。文中提出了在既有繁忙干线提高旅客列车速度的原则、实施步骤、试验结论及需要解决的问题。

The Paper summarizes the new challenges confronting the railway industry during the transition of China's planned economy toward a market economy and the pattern of economic growth from an extensive one to an intensive one. To meet the challenges, the Ministry of Railways has decided to raise passenger train speeds to 140-160km/h on busy trunk lines and taken vigorous measures. The paper brings forth the principles and implementing steps for the speed raise, the conclusions drawn from experimental results and the problems yet to be tackled.
