Acute aortic occlusion is an infrequent but dangerous vascular emergency with a mortality rate of 50%, resulting from aortic saddle embolus, thrombosis of an atherosclerotic abdominal aorta, or sudden thrombosis of a small abdominal aortic aneurysm.
