摘要
委婉语源远流长,历经盎格鲁——撒克逊时代,16世纪新古典主义时期至18、19世纪,委婉语在英国内外迅速发展。20世纪80年代,美国委婉语在金钱、疾病、政治和战争等话题中用得最多。委婉语运用得当在社会交际活动中可以起到事半功倍的作用。
The source of euphemism is related closely with religion and taboo. Euphemisms reflect the culture of a certain society and have different language styles all through different ages. English euphemisms were borrowed to other countries and developed with local cultures. Euphemism plays an important part in personal relationship.
