介音是前依声母还是后附韵母近年来颇有争议。本文根据来自形态构词方面的证据,说明介音从本质上看是介于声韵之间因而与双方都有潜在联系。它有时表现出只与声母或只与韵母紧密相连,这是某一特定情况只激活与其中一端潜在联系的结果。

Whether the medial in the Chinese syllable should be incorporated into initial or into final has recently come to be quite controversial. With evidence from a morphological process, I am arguing in this paper that the medial actually lies between initial and final in nature and therefore it is closely related to both sides. Sometimes the medial behaves in a way that it seems to be a part of initial or final, yet it is because only one of the two lines that are potentially connected to initial and final is triggered under some circumstances.
