On Modern Cities Becoming Managing Centers of Regional Development

从历史上看,中国城市自产生之日起就与权力政治结合在一起,大大小小的城市都是各级地方政权所在地和各级统治阶级管理一个地区的大本营。一般来说,城市行政地位越高,对周围地区管理控制范围也越宽。近代以来,随着国内外政治经济环境的变化,城市作为区域管理中心对区域社会经济活动控制力度呈进一步加强态势。

Historically, China＇s cities have been knit together with political power ever since they came into being. The cities, large or small, are the locations of local authority of all levels and the headquarters for the rulers of different levels to control a region. Generally speaking, the higher the administrative power a city has, the larger region it can manage and control. In Modern China, cities serving as regional managing centers tend to be more and more powerful over social economic activities with the changes of political and economic environment home and abroad.
