Rational Meditation on Academic Freedom of Contemporary Universities

摘要 “学术自由”根源于“思想自由”,是一种古老而富有生命力的大学理念,即进行科学研究、探索真理和教与学的自由,这是繁荣学术、发展科学、探求真理的基本条件。学术自由是一个相对的有限度的概念,大学永远都不可能摆脱政府对它的直接或间接的监督与控制,学术自由只能是保持自由基本精神的、有一定限度和制约的、相对的自由;大学在倡导和实施学术自由时,应不断更新学术观念,树立现代学术的目的观、发展观、评价观和新旧学术观念的批判继承观,主动地为社会承担更多的义务和责任,以最大限度地实现自身的价值,并以理性思维和批判精神审视社会。 "Academic freedom" roots in "thought freedom", which is an old but vigorous university concept. "Academic freedom" is freedom for scientific research, truth pursuit, teaching and learning, which are the fundamentals to academic prosperity, scientific development and truth pursuit. Academic freedom is a relatively limited concept. University can never free itself from the direct or indirect supervision and domination of the government. Academic freedom can only be the comparative freedom that keeps the fundamental spirit of freedom with certain limitations and restrictions. While university is advocating and implementing "academic freedom", "academic concept" should be continuously renewed, the modern academic objective outlook, development outlook, evaluation outlook and critical inheritance outlook of old and new academic concept should be established, more obligation and responsibility should be taken initiatively for the society to realize its greatest value and to examine the society with rational thinking and critical spirit.
