Criticism of the Explanation on the Chapter of Shouldering a Responsibility in The Analects

考《论语》“当仁,不让于师”一章注释,或以“谦让”释“让”,以“老师”“先生”释“师”,或以“谦让”释“让”,以“众”释“师”。笔者认为二说俱有偏误,从语言文字、孔子思想、社会实情三点辨正。

There are two explanations on ＂dang ren, bu rang yu shi＂ in The Analects： interpreting ＂rang＂ as ＂qian rang＂ （decline out of modesty） and ＂shi＂ as ＂lao shr＇ （teacher） or ＂xian sheng＂ （teacher）; interpreting ＂rang＂ as ＂qian rang＂ （decline out of modesty） and ＂shi＂ as ＂zhong＂ （many）. This paper holds that these two are not completely correct and discusses them from the following three points of view： language, thoughts of Confucius and social actuality.
