摘要
本文在确认我国英语教育应该重新定位的前提下,从外语教学的“西方中心”背景切入,分析了我国英语教育过热的越位现象,以反映定位的必要性。接着引述Dr.Nunan根据实证研究提出的四点意见,用以说明定位的内涵。最后从中国实际出发提出了定位须得清晰认识的四点理念:英语不会成为我们的通用语;全面地看待英语教育;英语教学目的应该多元化;英语教学途径不可单一。
Considering the proposition that the provision of English education in China needs to be re orientated, this paper first introduces the background of the "west-centered" view which affects China's English language teaching and research, then it analyses the present "over-heated" situation of English education in China, so as to demonstrate the need for the orientation. Further, Nunan's four suggestions derived from his empirical study are used to illustrate the connotation of the orientation. Finally, drawn from a completely Chinese perspective of ELT, the paper proposes four ideas for the further consideration of the orientation, namely, the impossibility of English being a global language in China; the need for a greater undertanding of English education in China; and the potential benefits of teaching English for a multitude of purposes and by a variety of methods.
