Alice Walker is an outstanding contemporary Afro- American woman writer. Her works show great concerns about the liberation of the women.This paper analyzes the male black characters in The Color Purple, so as to probe into the womanism advocated by Walker： the liberation of women needs the efforts of women and the growth of men.
