本文通过考察两汉掖庭制度建设之始末,尝试从制度史的角度,分析汉代掖庭女乐的性质、功能、音乐品类,探讨其发展并得以繁盛的历史原因,阐述它对中下层贵族蓄伎之风产生的影响,揭示它在乐府音乐和乐府文学的发展、繁荣、传播中的历史意义。

This text makes an investigation into the history of the womanly amusement establishment of the 'Concubine Palace' in the Eastern and Western Han Dynasties and tries to find its nature, function and the kinds of musical performance adopted there. Certainly, its development exerted a considerable influence upon the custom of the prostitution of the middle and lower classes of nobility and the prosperity of the music and the literature in the Yuefu.
