湖北素称泽国,境内江河纵横交错、湖泊星罗棋布。历来湖北政治以堤防建设为重,加之清末民初水患频仍,堤防建设更引起士人及普通民众的关注,所以这时期产生了许多堤防文献。这些堤防文献,内容丰富,资料翔实,并且提出了许多重要的江河防治思想与方法,对我们今天的江河防治仍具有现实指导意义。

Hubei, used to be the world of water, has many rivers and lakes. So the dyke construction has been attached importance to Hubei politics since a long time, and during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republican China, fi-equent water disasters invoked many intellectuals and even the common people to pay more attention to the dyke construction, therefore many documentaries on dyke came out during the time. These documentaries, with rich content and thoroughly data, provide us with valuable theories and methods about the flood prevention, also they are our guidance for measure in practice now.
