This paper attempts to make a comparative study of Lu Xun and Kuriyagawa Hakuson in terms of their interpretation and representation of human llfe in their works. The author argues that, starting from"intermediate"eonsciousness of the subjectivity and transience of human life,Lu Xun called for a courage to face up to life's hanlships and a"despemte struggle"while the latter employed"symbols of anguish"in his works as a solution to life' s problems. Despite the difference, they understood and interpreted fife in almost the same terms in that they tried to represent freedom of life artistically.
