Distribution of weeping from the sieve tray of 1.2 m diameter under various gas to liquid flow ratio was experimentally measured. It was found that the weeping is non uniformly distributed across the tray, and the maximum weeping load appears near the inlet weir owing to the high liquid head above the holes. A model was presented with the consideration of maldistributed weeping to show how the weeping distribution effects the tray efficiency at various Peclet numbers, point efficiencies, equilibrium constants, and gas to liquid flow rates. The model computation showed that the maldistributed weeping gives lower tray efficiency in comparison with the case of uniformly distributed weeping, and showed that the maldistribution of weeping can not be ignored in the sizing of trays.
