Spatial turn is regarded as one of the contemporary developmental trends in social theories, and it evolves along two lines. On the one hand, modern social theorists, including Giddens, Boudieu, and Lefebvre, are examining within the framework of modernity the significance of the interactions between space and society to research into social structures and social processes; on the other hand, several postmodern social theorists are using geographic concepts and metaphors to understand this increasingly complex and differentiated social world. The current paper is to describe the basic routes of this turn.
