The Absence and Presence of Huajing

化境从根本上说是一种解释性假说,钱钟书的定义也只能视为其部分内涵。只有结合传统哲学和美学,以及钱钟书的整体翻译思想,才能揭示化境的理论实质以及其中长期被忽略的丰富内涵。

Since huajing （sublimity） is essentially an interpretative hypothesis, Qian＇s definition does not exhaust its connotations. Only by taking into consideration both its roots in traditional philosophy and aesthetics as well as Qian＇s overall understanding of translation can we better reveal its theoretical significance and appreciate its rich implications.
