Ch' ien hsan' s Painting and Calligraphy and His Opinion of the Painting of the Literati

钱选是元代初期的重要画家,他的书画艺术的修养是全面而扎实的,于人物、山水、花鸟、篆刻诸科皆有涉猎。就山水画而言,其在画面中所实践的有关古老母题与“江山高隐”的回归以及元代山水画视觉结构的重建直接启迪着赵孟和“元四家”的文人画创作。绘画理论上,他倡导的“戾家说”对元明清三代的文人画思想产生了深远的影响。

Ch＇ien hsan was the important artist in the early Yuan Dynasty, and his culture from painting and calligraphy was comprehensive and profound. He was accomplished in person, landscape, seal cutting, flower and bird. As far as landscape painting was concerned, the practice of returning the old carrier and ＂seclude himself and shun the world＂and the rebuilding from the visual structure of the landscape painting of Yuan Dynasty in the picture have thrown light on the inditing of the Painting of the Literati of Zhao Meng -fu and＂four artist in the Yuan Dynasty＂. His＂Opinion of the Painting of the Literati＂had an important influence on the theory of the Painting of the Literati even through the Yuan, Ming and Ch＇ing dynasties on the theory of painting.
