After our defeat in the First Opium War of 1840-42,accomplishing the modernization of Chinese industry and agriculture, and making Chinese economic catch up with or surpass the developed capitalist countries, were the fervent aspiration of many Chinese.
Sun Yat-sen＇s Industrial Development of China written after the First World War is a large scale constructive project. It reflected Chinese People＇s determination to change the poor and weak situation around the country, and also the spirit and the great ideal to support ourselves in the advanced nations of the world. There were many advanced thoughts which are worthy of studying and valuing. It is an important legacy of Chinese modern history about economic ideas.
