Study on the Relationship between Mei Flower and Snow

梅花开与下雪有着同期的时间关系,这引发人们对梅雪关系的认识。对梅与雪生态关系的认识,归纳起来有3种:一是从对立观念出发,用梅花冲雪开放演绎其傲寒品格;二是从相和观念出发,用梅花“雪里开花”来表明其高于其他草木的情操;三是从同化观念出发,把梅同化成冰肌玉骨的“霜雪美人”,赋予梅花崇高的人格。虽然对梅雪关系的认识不同,但世人无不以梅与雪的关系来赞美梅花的高风亮节。

The blooming of Mei Flower（ Prunus mume ） is usually accompanied by snow. The perception and explanation of such a phenomenon varies with people for generations, which can be summed up into three kinds. One of them, out of the concept of opposition, thinks that the blooming of Mei Flower in snow displays its high proud quality of never yielding to snow. Another, from the viewpoint of coincidence, believes that the phenomenon of blooming in snow explains that Mei Flower has higher moral character than other plants. The third, viewing it from the concept of assimilation, personalizes Mei Flower as the noble and unsullied ＂snow beauty＂ with high personality. Though people differ in understanding and explaining the relationship between the Mei Flower and snow, one thing in common is that all praise the high and upright character of Mei Flower through building such a relationship.
