Word Order Contrasts Between English and Chinese and Their Translation

由于操英语者和操汉语者的民族文化习俗和思维模式不同,英汉两种语言在语序的排列顺序上有很大的区别,了解两种语言的这种不同无疑可促进翻译质量的提高。本文主要探讨英汉两种语言词语构成层次上的语序对比,句子成分排列层次上的语序对比,以及多语义团句子构成层次上的语序对比,并且在上述语言现象的翻译上,提出了语序调整和重组句子的重要手段。

There is a great difference between English word orders and Chinese ones because of the difference between the cultural customs and the thinking modes of the English native speakers and the Chinese native speakers. A knowledge of the word order difference between the two languages will certainly contribute to the improvement of translation quality. This paper probes the word order contrasts between the two languages and their translation techniques at the levels of customary phrasal expressions, of simpler sentence element sequences, and of multi - event sentence sequences.
