In order to increase the transmission speed of WebGIS, it is important to compress spatial data in building database of electronic map, in addition to the improvement of the structure and mode of the data of WebGIS. This paper introduces in detail the Douglas-Peucker algorithm and small-wave-varying method of the vector data compression, offering the reference for the compression of the vector data in the database of the electronic map.
