The spreading direction of bituminous Ires received little attention during pavement construetion. This paper analyses movement pattern of granule materials during the spreading of bituminous mixer, explains the relation between spreading direction in construction and traveling direction and discusses the influence of spreading direction on wad performance of bituminous surface course. It is suggested that special attention should be paid to the spreading direction in constructing pavement to improve the quality of bituminous surface.
