Said’s Image of Intellectuals

赛义德心中的知识分子形象是立足于世俗,但又超越世俗,为理想而奋斗的社会精英。知识分子应超越民族界限,代表人类正义,保持内心的流亡状态,以业余的态度对抗专业化,坚定无畏,敢于对强权说出真理。赛义德知识分子观警醒中国知识分子要焕发时代精神,大胆批判,积极入世,为社会主义现代化建设做出贡献。

The image of intellectuals in Said＇s perspective is that of elites being in the secular world but striving for their ideals. Intellectuals should not only possess principles, go beyond the limits of their nation, represent human justice but also oppose professionalism with an amateur attitude as well as tell the truth boldly when facing authority. Said＇s theory admonishes the scholars in China to show their spirits and be actively involved in this human world to contribute to the modernization of our country.
