We studied the relations between total cholesterol, triglyceride and α—lipoprotein on one hand and hemorheological variables on the other hand in 559 people aged over 40 years who were examined in a few hospital on Suzhou. The associations between serum-lipid and hemorheological variables in men were found to be defferent from those in women. The hemorheological variables were not found to be related to surum lipid except positive association between serum cholesteril and fibrinogen in women. In men, cholesterol was positively correlated to erythrocyte hematocrit, fibrinogen, blood viscosity at high and low-shear rates, whole blood reduced viscosity at low shear rate, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)K value and erythrocyte electropheresis time. For triglyceride, positive associations with blood viscosity at high shear rate, whole blood reduced viscosity at high shear rate and fibrinogen were ob- served.Plasma viscosity was significantly higher in upper quartile groups of cholesterol and triglyce- ride than in low quartile groups.α—lipoprotein have negative linear correlation to blood viscosity, whole blood reduced viscosity, plasma viscosity, fibrinogen, erythrocyte hematocrit and erythrocyte elec- tropheresis time. These results suggest that the α—lipoprotein contributes to improving flow property of blood and is a protective factor of cardivascular diseases.
