Feb. 28 through March 1, the China LPG Conference 2006 was held by Guangdong Oil & Gas Association (OGA) in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The LPG market trends both in the world and China were discussed at the conference. It should be noted that, influenced by the global crude oil price, the LPG price in South China has been soaring during the end of last year and the beginning of this year. On Jan. 16th of this year, the National Development and Reform Commission released the LPG price ceiling in order to protect consumer interests. This caused the LPG price to drop, having serious impact on the profit margin of LPG distributors. Since China’s LPG market has been opened up completely, the price ceiling policies have resulted in strong responses in the LPG industry. Therefore, this conference had attracted enormous participation of interested parties, and the government’s influence in the industry’s development became one of the hot topics.
