Sutong Bridge——the Miracle of World Bridge-building Histor

桥梁是交通基础设施的重要组成部分，对发展国民经济、促进社会进步和巩固国防等具有重大作用。“桥梁的建设和发展，代表着国家经济的繁荣和文化艺术的发达”（原交通部副长李居昌语）。

Sutong bridge is situated between Nantong city and Suzhou (Changshu) city of east part of Jiangsu Province.The whole length of construction route is 32.4 kilometer,it is composed mainly of three parts ,route-connecting project of north bank ,river-crossing bridge project and route-connecting project of south bank.The whole route needs rolled steel of 250000 ton or so, concrete of 1400000 cubic meters and 3200000 cubic meters of fill in all.Total project investment is 6.45 billion yuan. Sutong bridge project plans to start to build in 2003,and ensures that it will finish construction work to be open to traffic in 2009.
