A SWOT Analysis of Making Xiamen a Regional Financial Centre

金融中心作为金融竞争最重要的载体和平台,已成为展示一国(地区)综合实力或城市核心竞争力的最重要标志。作为我国经济特区和海峡西岸经济区重要的中心城市,厦门建设区域性金融中心既有外部环境优越、区位优势明显和金融基础扎实等优势,也有总量偏小、创新不足和产业链不够完整等弱点。厦门既面临特区新一轮跨越式发展、我国市场全面开放等有利机遇,又面临国际竞争与国内竞争的双重挑战。为此,要抓住机遇,扬长避短,加快金融机构、人才和市场的集聚,才能在日趋激烈的国际国内竞争面前掌握主动,赢得建设区域性金融中心的先机。

Financial centre, the most important carrier and platform of financial competition, is the paramount sign of the over- all strength of a country （region） or the core competitiveness of a city. As a spocial economic zone and an important central city west of Taiwan Straits, Xiamen is endowed with a desirable external environment, a predominant location and a solid financial basis. However, it also has such comparative disadvantages as small gross product, lack of innovation and incomplete industry chains. The leap- forward development of special economic zones and the opening up of the domestic market provide Xiamen with great opportunities, but competitions home and abroad pose double challenges. Only by exerting advantages, avoiding disadvantages, and quickening the centralization of financial institutes, talents, and markets, can we gain the initiative in the increasingly fierce competitions home and abroad and grasp the opportunity to make Xiamen a regional financial centre.
