The supposition of brains-in-a-vat is the most important argument of skepticism. Putnam has showed “the supposition of brains-in-a-vat is self-refuting”, which can be taken as a strategy of anti-skepticism. However, neither the normal brain-in-a-vat nor the Putnamian brain-in-a-vat is self-refuting, so Putnam's arguments are wrong and Putnamian answering skepticism is unsuccessful.
